Daniel, Part 4

Daily Devotional

Average reading time is about 3 minutes

“Then it happened, when I, Daniel, had seen the vision and was seeking the meaning, that suddenly there stood before me one having the appearance of a man” (Daniel 8:15).

Jim Schembri was up a tree. The British tree surgeon was literally out on a limb when he took a nasty fall and was knocked unconscious. Thankfully for him, the East Anglia Air Ambulance came to the res- cue. When he came to, he was being loaded onto a helicopter. Knowing that the future king of England, Prince William, worked for the company as an air ambulance pilot, Jim joked, “Wilsy better not be flying this thing.”

It turns out that Prince William had indeed been at Jim’s side while the medical team treated him. As he took the controls of the helicopter and flew Jim to the hospital, he turned and said to the patient, “Oh, I’ve been holding your head for the last thirty minutes.” After Jim Schembri was checked into the hospital, he received a royal surprise when Prince William came to check up on him.

The prophet Daniel received an unexpected visit from the royal courts of heaven. After receiving one of the most significant visions of his life—the 2,300-day prophecy—the angel Gabriel came to him to explain the dream. He “was in a deep sleep” (Daniel 8:18) when the highest-ranking angel in heaven touched him and stood him on his feet. Gabriel said, “Look, I am making known to you what shall happen in the latter time” (verse 19).

To all who are seeking to understand the deep messages of Scripture, God is ready to send angels of light to open our minds to the prophetic truths for our time. The Lord commissions His messengers to enlighten us, just as He did when He said, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision” (verse 16).

You may know for yourself the meaning of the prophecies of Daniel when you seek divine guidance. And you don’t have to fall out of a tree to receive heaven’s help.

“Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me; place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.”
