King Saul, desperate for guidance as the Philistine army threatened Israel, turned to a medium after God refused to answer him. Having disobeyed God throughout his reign, Saul sought out a witch in Endor, who summoned an apparition claiming to be the deceased prophet Samuel. The spirit foretold Saul’s death and the deaths of his sons in battle. The next day, Saul’s sons were killed, and Saul, mortally wounded, took his own life. The identity of the apparition – was it truly Samuel or a deceptive spirit?
