A Message from Pastor Doug
According to an ABC News Report, imprisonment rates in Australia are at an all-time high and still rising. More than 44,000 inmates are locked up right now—that’s only several thousand less people than live in the entire city of Logan, an outer suburb of Brisbane, Australia. The number of people in jail and prison has shot up by 35 percent over the past 20 years.
Locked in a world where shadows prevail, many of these souls have no vision for a brighter future. Shackled by addiction, loneliness, and despair, they wander in spiritual darkness, longing for meaning and peace.
Yet God sees every prisoner, understands their need, and wants to save every one of them.
The truth is, we’ve all been “imprisoned … under sin’s power” (Galatians 3:22), locked up by the devil’s deceptive chains. Unless Jesus sets us free, we’re destined to receive the just penalty for breaking God’s law: eternal death.
At creation, God said, “Let there be light,” and darkness was dispelled. His Word still brings order out of chaos. Paul writes that God, “who commanded light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). This light of truth and love transforms lives even in the worst of situations.
When Jesus said, “I was in prison and you visited Me,” He was calling us to carry His light to the incarcerated. Through Amazing Facts, that same light now reaches into prison cells, bringing hope, forgiveness, peace, and true liberty in Christ. Thank you for partnering with us in this important work.

Prison Ministry in Action
Watch how the light of God’s Word is piercing the darkness behind bars. We believe that every inmate is a soul for whom Christ died—unique, redeemable, and precious to God’s heart. Because God sees every prisoner, understands their need, and wants to save every one of them , we are answering the call to carry His light to the incarcerated.
Changed Live Story
Robert Murray
Robert sat on his prison bunk staring up at a dim patch of sunlight beaming through a high window in his cell. A wry smile crinkled the corners of his mouth. His hearing was coming up soon and he was hoping to be released. Robert was already planning what he would do as soon as he got out of prison. First, he’d get a little money somehow. Then get high on drugs….
A sudden clunking of keys in the prison cell door broke into Robert’s reverie. A prison guard appeared in the doorway to usher Robert and his cell mate to the prison hall for their daily activities.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”.
Although Robert had planned a return to his old ways, God was making different plans. Before his sentence was up, Robert would experience a life transformation—and your compassionate gifts for Amazing Facts Oceania evangelism helped make it possible!
A Violent and Abusive Childhood
All through his growing up years, Robert’s Father was violent and abusive. Robert signed up for martial arts so he could learn to fight and defend himself. Robert says “By the age of 13, I vowed that I would never be like my Father; however, by the time I was 16, I was exactly like him – violent, angry and always in trouble with the law.”
In his early teens, Robert started experimenting with drugs and alcohol. “I wasn’t whole,” he explains. “I felt like a loser because my life was a mess, and I was failing at school. A part of me was looking for approval, and I would do risky things to get attention.” “I became hopelessly addicted to substances. I was in and out of prison at a young age and deeply hurt my family and friends.
Eventually, after many years of abuse and trauma, Robert’s Mum plucked up the courage to leave their Father. The family moved around 20 times over the next few years and changed schools numerous times. Robert’s mother tried to raise Robert and his siblings as best she could, but it seemed the harder she tried, the worse he got. Robert reflects, “I didn’t learn from my mistakes, and the crimes became worse and the jail sentences became longer each time I went in.”
“When I wasn’t in prison, I held down a job for a while, but my whole existence was consumed with the need for instant gratification, and I got involved in all sorts of crime to achieve that,” he shares. “Sometimes Mum would cry on my shoulder and tell me I could be “more in life’. Although I didn’t like to see her cry, I did not have any desire to change – I did not know HOW to change.”
Many people say of prisoners, “They’re a hopeless lot.” It’s true that most have committed crimes and should be in prison. Even so, God says, “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them” (Hebrews 13:3). Did you know that Jesus identified Himself with the incarcerated? He said, “I was in prison and you came to Me” (Matthew 25:36).
Would you visit Jesus in prison? Would you send Christian literature, letters of encouragement, and Bible lessons to those behind bars? When you minister to the imprisoned, physically and spiritually, you are doing the work of Christ. Your gifts really do transform lives!
A Dark Day and a New Beginning
All through his growing up years, Robert’s Father was violent and abusive. Robert signed up for martial arts so he could learn to fight and defend himself. Robert says “By the age of 13, I vowed that I would never be like my Father; however, by the time I was 16, I was exactly like him – violent, angry and always in trouble with the law.”
It was during a dark moment in Robert’s life that Jesus found him. Robert shared: “My cellmate and I had been taken to the prison hall for our daily activities with some other prisoners. We had been there for a while, and I was just walking along the hallway when suddenly, out of nowhere, something large came hurling toward me at high speed and there was no time to react! With a sickening thud, it crashed to the floor directly on the concrete less than 1 metre in front of me”.
“To my utter horror, I realised it was the body of my cell mate who had just flung himself 25 feet backwards from the balcony up above! He had landed flat on his back onto concrete and hit the his head with massive impact”.
“My cell buddy had been accused of a malicious crime by his ex-partner, and his life was miserable, but I didn’t realise it had come to this. I bent over the crumpled, limp body at my feet. I yelled for help, and as the prison guards gathered, I watched him intently in disbelief. I couldn’t believe he would do that – my cell mate that I spent 18 hours a day with! I was a hardened criminal. I had seen blood, violence and death and been unaffected, but this time it really moved me. I was so traumatised, I began shaking violently”.
“It felt like an eternity, but within a couple of moments, I saw his foot start moving and someone yelled, ‘He is alive!’”
“The medics arrived soon after and began attending to him. I wanted to be there by his side, but the prisoners were cleared out of the hall and locked down. I sat in my cell with my head in my hands and waited. Four hours later there was a rattling of keys in the cell door, and in walked my prison buddy – smiling broadly with a support officer at his side. My jaw dropped open in amazement and tears welled up in my eyes. ‘I am ok, Robert, I am ok!’ he cried. I stared in disbelief. The support officer who was with him confirmed that he had no concussion, no bleeding and no broken bones – only a bit of a headache from the impact. It was an absolute miracle! He should have died that day. ‘There must be a God’ I mumbled to myself, shaking my head in disbelief.”
The only explanation Robert could come up with was that God had put His hand out and saved his cell buddy’s life. It was nothing short of a miracle. After some final remarks, the prison officer instructed him to gather his belongings, and he left.
“I sat down at the bench trying to process what I had just seen. It was then that my eyes fell on one item that my cell mate had left behind – a Bible! I felt an urge to pick it up and start reading; something told me that I would find the answers I was searching for in there. I started at the beginning at Genesis. I was hooked from the first line… ‘in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’. Someone actually made the world – so there must be a purpose for my life too!” Robert smiled. God’s peace came over him as he read the words of Scripture.
Later that week, Robert was led to watch Amazing Facts on television and responded to the offer to give his heart to Christ. “God came into my life – THANK YOU GOD!” Robert’s voice broke with emotion.
Robert attended a chapel service soon after and tears streamed down his face as the group sang hymns of salvation and forgiveness in Christ.
Unfortunately, Robert was not released from prison as soon as he had anticipated; his sentence was prolonged. However, he was no longer fixated on getting his next drug hit; instead, he spent his time meditating on God’s Word and getting to know Jesus. Robert spent 8-9 hours a day reading the Bible, and read it through many times. “I just couldn’t get enough of it” he grinned.
“One day I was in my cell alone reading the Bible when an audible voice said to me, ‘You should stop only READING the Bible and start STUDYING it’. I swung my head around to see who had spoken, and no one was there. I realised that it must have been God. The next time I saw a chaplain, I asked him for Bible studies and Chaplain Victor Rao directed me to several resources, one of which was the Amazing Facts Study course. The studies helped me find a deeper relationship with God and I discovered many truths that helped me understand God’s Word clearly.”
Robert shared his testimony with other inmates and encouraged them to watch Amazing Facts on TV and begin the Bible studies also.
“I cannot change the past, but with God’s help I will change the future!” Robert flashed a grateful smile heavenward. “The old man is dead, and I am a new man in Christ”. “I want to say thank you to the donors who make the TV broadcasts and Bible studies possible. It led me to Jesus! Thank you for changing my life.”

Robert wrote to us at age 52 with joy in his heart after finally being released from prison in 2024, “After 40 years of destroying my life, I have found a new reason to live.” Today, Robert is out of prison and spends his days reading God’s word and encouraging others to get to know Jesus.
With the support of Chaplain Victor Rao and others, he is now preparing to be baptised into a Sabbath-keeping church!
And Robert’s cell buddy who was miraculously spared from death? A few months later he was released from prison and cleared of all the charges against him! We pray that he was able to find a deep relationship with Jesus also after being given a second chance at life.
I’m asking you to prayerfully consider giving the gift of freedom to the prisoners in Australia, Kenya, Vanuatu and other parts of Oceania. Will you offer others like Robert an eternal life beyond bars?
